It's Simple:No To Chris Murray

Chris MurrayLong Island · State Senate

The record is the record.

He wants to present himself as a Long Island neighbor. A local lawyer. A candidate who cares about affordability. Before he was a candidate, he spent decades as an environmental lawyer, a civil-liberties advocate, and a Democratic activist. He has never been elected to the State Senate.

Chris Murray pays lip service to our affordability crisis. His plan will bankrupt already struggling Long Islanders.

01The Working Families Party

The endorsement tells you what he is willing to stand with.

Murray is the Democratic candidate. He is also endorsed by the Working Families Party. That is not a courtesy line on a palm card.

In 2020, the Working Families Party launched a fund with the Movement for Black Lives for candidates who favor defunding the police. National Director Maurice Mitchell said they were “not interested in nibbling around the edges or accepting symbolic concessions.”

  • It has opposed rollbacks of New York’s 2019 bail law.
  • It has backed abolishing ICE.
  • It has called for cutting the Department of Homeland Security.
  • It has promoted bail funds while demanding divestment from police.
  • Its economic program: tax the wealthy and spend more.

Murray has carried that line before.

  2. TodayEndorsed by the Working Families Party again. He accepted it.

The label is Democratic. The endorsement is Working Families.

He could have turned it down.

The record is Murray’s.

02Income Tax

He will raise taxes on Long Island paychecks.

Murray talks about affordability. His record is a tax hike.

Hiking income taxes on already struggling Long Islanders so Albany can give more money to New York City. Dramatically increasing income and property taxes to expand New York State government.

Increase to the state budget

The party that just endorsed him is built on taxing the wealthy. On Long Island, that is not a Manhattan slogan. That is a household with two incomes, a mortgage, and school taxes. That is the target.

Murray has already shown he will do it. In January 2024, he supported a Suffolk County sales-tax increase after the Legislature refused to put the hike on the ballot.

His proposals would hike income and property taxes on Long Island families and seniors at a time when we can least afford it.

We don’t need Chris Murray showing up in Albany already supporting higher taxes.

03Your Health Insurance

The largest tax increase in New York history.

Murray says he supports the New York Health Act. Do not let him call it health care.

The bill ends private health insurance and replaces it with one plan, run by Albany, funded by new taxes on every paycheck and on investment income. Employers pay. Workers pay.

The bill bans private insurance that duplicates those benefits. Albany takes it, and you pay for it in taxes.

That is not an option added to the market. That is the market, abolished, and replaced with a tax.

Murray supports it.

Exhibit BNov. 17, 2006

“I think ROTC in a high school setting isn't appropriate.”

Chris Murray · The O'Reilly Factor
On the military

Taxes. Insurance. A party line. Those are only part of the record.

He went on national television to defend shutting down a high school cadet program.

04ROTC

He said high school ROTC was wrong.

On November 17, 2006, Murray went on The O'Reilly Factor to defend shutting down high school ROTC.

  1. On ROTC“I think ROTC in a high school setting isn’t appropriate.”
  2. Asked if encouraging the military in high school was wrong“At high school level, yes I do.”
  3. On 17-year-oldsHe said they were “too vulnerable” for it.

Parents in this district do not think a high school cadet program is a threat. Murray did. He said the school board was right to kill it. He said encouraging service at that age was wrong.

That was not a campaign slip. It was his position.

Nearly two decades later, the record still stands.

He has never publicly repudiated it.

05Hochul and Murray

Two peas in Long Island’s unaffordability pod.

Governor Hochul's policies have resulted in New Yorkers paying the highest taxes in the nation, energy rates 70 percent above the national average, and the largest outmigration in the nation.

Long Islanders are leaving because they can't afford Governor Hochul's New York. Chris Murray wants to double down on these failed policies.

Chris Murray's bad ideas

  • Increasing the state budget by over $200 billion, dramatically increasing income and property taxes to expand New York State government.
  • Hiking income taxes on already struggling Long Islanders so Albany can give more money to New York City.
  • Ending New York’s high school ROTC programs, which provide a pathway for students and opportunities for our young people.

His bad ideas will only make Long Island's affordability crisis worse.

The bottom line

Don't listen to what Chris Murray says he will do. Look at what he has already said.

Working Families Party
Endorsed by the party that funded defund-the-police campaigns, opposed fixing bail reform, and backed abolishing ICE. He ran on that line in 2002. He accepted it again.
Income tax
He has already supported a tax increase. His plan hikes income and property taxes on Long Island so Albany can spend more and send more to New York City.
Health care
He supports the New York Health Act, the largest tax increase in New York state history, and the end of private insurance.
ROTC
He said high school ROTC was inappropriate, and agreed that encouraging the military at the high school level was wrong.

Never held this office. Four positions on record. One record he cannot erase.

  • Higher taxes.
  • Skyrocketing energy bills.
  • Ever-increasing costs.

On Election Day, reject High Cost Chris Murray.

The record is the record.
